When it comes to data security, the Federal Trade Commission is best known for beating up on companies that have been the victims of hackers, even when there was no actual harm to consumers.  Late last month, though, the Commission announced a new web tool designed to help individuals who are actually victims of identity theft.  The FTC has enhanced www.identitytheft.gov to integrate it with the agency’s consumer complaint system, allowing consumers to file a complaint with the FTC about identity theft and then get a personalized guide to “recovery.”
