Defamation is the action of damaging the good reputation of someone – slander or libel. Because ROP refers to the right of publicity, then if you defame someone, that person has a course of action to ensure that his or her reputation is not damaged. A professional, for example, a medical doctor, an attorney, an engineer, or anyone who has put money into making an image, or who depends on their reputation to make their livelihood, then has a right for cause of action if their image is defamed.
