On July 13, 2016, thirty-two product-specific regulations enacted pursuant to the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA), ranging from asbestos products to hockey helmets to textile floor coverings, were published in the Canada Gazette.
The regulations contain administrative revisions that harmonize the regulations with the CCPSA statutory regime, which came into force in June of 2011 and was discussed here.
Amendments have been made to remove references to the Hazardous Products Act and match the naming conventions of other CCPSA regulations; reflect current legislative drafting practices; update references to current product safety standards, which have been re-affirmed; and correct inconsistencies between the English and French versions of three of the regulations. The Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement published with the regulations states that they do not contain substantive changes.
The regulations came into force on June 22, 2016.
