The Ministry of Justice and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills have published the results of a survey of small and medium sized enterprises (“SMEs”) into the awareness and impact of the Bribery Act 2010 (the “Act”). Notable in the results of the survey were the following figures:

  • 34% of SMEs surveyed had either not heard of the Act or were not aware that they could be liable for failing to prevent bribery.
  • SMEs that export to regions that are less developed and more prone to corruption had a greater awareness of the Act (68%), than those that export to more developed regions (56%).
