The Chair of the Article 29 Working Party (A29 WP), the advisory body set up under the Data Protection Directive, comprising all the EU national data protection regulators, has stated that it will give its Opinion on the proposed EU-US Privacy Shield after they meet in Brussels later this week. The A29 WP will be providing a non-binding Opinion, but one which will guide and inform European countries’ decision as to whether or not to approve the Privacy Shield. In particular the A29 WP will be considering whether the guarantees of Europeans’ privacy rights are sufficient, and likely court challenges to the Privacy Shield.
