On February 3, 2015, the European Union's Data Protection authorities established a task force that will deal with Facebook's new Privacy Policy. The motive behind this establishment isparts of the Privacy Policy which are likely to violate the applicable EU privacy laws.

According to the German authority's representative, the move was in particular, triggered by two of Facebook's practices:

  • Collecting information as to users also when they are off-site, using third party websites and apps that contain a "like" button or a log-in function.
  • Business activities in which Facebooks shares data with 8 companies that are owned or operated by it (such as WhatsApp, Instagram etc.), without obtaining the explicit consent from its users.
