Those in the industry who continue to derive revenue from Norwegian players continue to pay close attention to local developments. Recently, the Government announced measures to adapt the monopolistic regime and a small number of operators received correspondence from the authorities, over the Summer, urging them to exit the market.

Now, a report commissioned by the Ministry of Culture has been published that aimed to assess the current legislative framework and its ability to protect the monopoly.

Notable recommendations include the expansion of the monopoly’s digital portfolio, a re-invigoration of the current (ineffective) payments ban and a concerted effort to prevent gambling ads appearing on Norwegian TV.

The report, that can be accessed here, is in Norwegian, but pages 9 and 10 contain a useful English summary.
