The European Commission has confirmed that it carried out surprise inspections on 13 April 2010 at the offices of various French water supply and treatment firms. The investigation was triggered by allegations of collusion over bids for water and sanitation management services for local authorities and of charging unfair prices for carrying out these services. The investigation is still at a very early stage and is likely to take some years to complete
