… in their bank accounts.  On April 1, President Obama issued Executive Order 13694, which for the first time authorizes economic sanctions against individuals and entities engaged in "significant malicious cyber-enabled activities" that harm U.S. interests.  Significantly, sanctions can be imposed not just on hackers themselves, but also on those who support or benefit from the hacking.  This surprisingly muscular move by the Executive Branch to go after cyber attackers and their supporters stands in marked contrast to Congress’ inability to pass legislation that would simply promote voluntary information sharing.
