Following the agreement between the European Council and the government on the UK’s membership deal, David Cameron has announced the date of the referendum, namely 23 June 2016. The agreement gives legal guarantee that the matters of concern to the UK expressed by the UK government during the negotiations have been addressed. The arrangements agreed on 19 February 2016 will become effective on the date the UK Government informs the Secretary-General of the Council that the UK has decided to remain a member of the EU. However, should the result of the referendum be for the UK to leave the EU, the agreed arrangements will cease to exist.
