On 3 December 2014, EIOPA published its most recent consumer trends report, which identifies (on foot of reported info from national supervisors) problematic trends for insurance and pensions consumers in Member State jurisdictions. These include (a) a lack of information and poor sales practices in the sale of add-ons and life assurance products, (b) misleading advertising (with an emphasis on price, rather than information), (c) the use by insurers of sales incentive schemes which lead to unfair treatment of consumers and (d) claims-handling issues (e.g. delays in payments). Notably, Ireland was one of the jurisdictions which reported issues in the sale of life assurance products (in particular, with regard to mis-selling of products).
