Boston’s tourism director and chief of staff for intergovernmental affairs pled not guilty to charges of conspiracy and extortion related to withholding permits from concert series organizers until they hired members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Each official could face 20 years in prison and $250,00 fines on both charges. In a separate indictment, five Boston Teamsters are accused of extortion after they allegedly pressured film crew to hire union labor on a picket line that became violent.
