On the 15 October 2015, the Home Secretary Theresa May wrote to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) asking it to examine whether there is a shortage of nurses or specific nursing job titles which it would be sensible to fill through non-EEA migration. MAC has been asked to conduct a full review and report back by 15 February 2016.
Pending MAC's full review, nurses will be placed on the Shortage Occupation List from November 2015 on a temporary basis.
This is welcome news for the health care sector and comes following submissions from several organisations, including the Royal College of Nursing and Department of Health. We will provide further information following the Immigration Rules changes which are due to be laid next month.
