The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has modified and approved American Electric Power Ohio (AEP)’s electric security plan (ESP) “that will ultimately determine its standard service offer rates from June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2018,” according to a recent press release. The PUCO “declined to adopt the company’s proposed purchase power agreement (see our September 8, 2014 blog post for more on this)”; while the Commission found the agreement to be legally permissible, it “was not persuaded that the proposal would benefit ratepayers.” AEP Ohio “will conduct six auctions to provide 100 percent of its standard service offer” during the term of the ESP, two of which will take place before the current ESP expires on May 31, 2015. Those auctions will offer a mixture of one-, two-, and three-year products. Auctions in November 2015 and March 2016 will offer two-year products; the last two auctions will offer one-year products in November 2016 and March 2017. For more, read the full release.
