The consultation document puts forward two fee options for the Employment Tribunal.

For the first option, the fee will depend on the nature of the claim, with three suggested levels. Level one will cover claims for unpaid wages and redundancy payments, and lodging a claim will cost £150. Level two will cover unfair dismissal claims and the fee will be £200. Level three includes all discrimination, equal pay and whistleblowing claims; here the fee is £250. Hearing fees will range between £250 and £1,250.

The second option would introduce a fourth level of fees, where claimants must state if they’re seeking an award of over £30,000. Fees to lodge a claim will range from £200 to £1,750.

The consultation document includes much more detail on proposals for fee remission and refunds, discounts for multiple claims, and fees for other tribunal procedures. The consultation closes on 6 March 2012.
