The Washington Senate last week unanimously passed a bill (H.R. 1078) expanding the scope of the state’s data breach notification law. Among other things, the bill would extend the notification law to all data containing personal information (not just computerized data) and would require notification of the state attorney general if more than 500 state residents are notified. It would also require notification within 45 days after discovery of the breach. The bill is scheduled for signature by Governor Jay Inslee (D) this afternoon.
