New Food Waste Bill pressing for duty to donate surplus food *

Labour MP for Bristol East, Kerry McCarthy, has introduced a new Bill into Parliament, calling for a duty upon food retailers and manufacturers to donate their food surplus to homeless charities, thus avoiding the “scandalous” amount of edible and healthy food that currently goes to waste – currently estimated at as much as 50% across Europe.

HSE releases its research report on vapour cloud explosions experiments and modelling, post-Buncefield *

Following the explosion and fire at Buncefield petrol storage site in Hertfordshire in 2005, and the questions this raised in relation to storage of hazardous liquids, the HSE sponsored a research programme looking into the technical issues surrounding the methods of hazard analysis for overfilling storage tanks, and how those methods can be improved in light of lessons learned from Buncefield.
