On July 19th, 2012, the French data protection authority ("CNIL") allowed for the first time, under strictly identical conditions, 13 French companies to implement procedures for the conduct of background screening of personal data in order to identify potential partners who may be involved in corrupt practices.

New legal framework for "cloud computing" according to the CNIL *

While the Italian data protection authority, Garante, published its mini-guide on cloud computing, anticipating publication of the G29's Opinion on Cloud, published last July 1st, the French National Commission on Information Technology and Individual Liberties published on June 25th, the result of its public consultation of October 2011, adapting its initial position on outsourcing to Cloud and the practical Recommendations for companies, which also include standard clauses.

On 12 January 2012, the Criminal Court of Dax sentenced a "camcording" pirate to nine months in prison (subject to reprieve) and to pay €373,500 in damages.
