EEOC clarifies that Title VII protects transgender employees and applicants *

On April 20, 2012, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) adopted the position that employment discrimination against transgender individuals because of their transgender status constitutes sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (“Title VII”).
