With many international sporting greats and artists (think Sachin Tendulkar and U2) regularly gracing our sports fields and stages (in U2's case, a US$30 million stage!), it is important for South African residents making payments to such individuals to consider the witholding tax which is imposed on foreign entertainers/sportspersons in terms of section 47B of the Income Tax Act, Act 58 of 1962 ("the Act"), is applicable to these individuals.
